The Michigan Meat Story Koegel Meats - Koegel's meats are sold and delivered almost exclusively in Michigan. Here at Michigan Hotdogs we want to make these wonderful goods available to the rest of the country. Flint, Michigan played the major role in the boom of the Automotive industry. Albert Koegel took advantage of the large influx of auto workers in the early 1900's to jump start his meat business. Koegel's produces up to 35 types of meat products, including bologna, hotdogs, sausages, franks, loafs, salamis, vienna frankfurters, and gourmet meat products. Koegel's hotdogs are found at almost every coney island restaurant in the city of Flint as everyone in town has grown to really love these hotdogs. After trying one of these high quality hotdogs you will never want to go back to a Ball Park or Oscar Meyer. Koegel's keeps very high standards when it comes to selecting the meat that goes into their product. You have probably also heard about the superior Michigan meat regulations. This also makes a difference between a Michigan hotdog and any other states hotdogs. You can really taste the difference. Kowalski Meat - Kowalski Sausage Company is located in Hamtramck, Michigan. Hamtramck's population is approximately 90% polish and Kowalski's Polish Kielbasa got it's start here. Being another Michigan meat company they are also held to strict meat regulations. These regulations really make a difference when it comes to comparing hotdogs from other states. No red dye needed here... just good quality meat. Kowalski started out with a grocery store and then added a smoke house to produce their smoked kielbasa in the early 1900's. Kowalski now produces over 75 different products, some of which can be ordered at MichiganHotdogs.com. Both of the fine meat companies listed above adhere to the rule that mechanically separated beef is considered inedible and is prohibited in their hotdogs or any other processed meat product they produce. Stick to these Michigan dogs for good eats! Also, the finished products may not contain more than 30% fat or no more than 10% water. Up to 3.5% non-meat binders and extenders (such as nonfat dry milk, cereal, or dried whole milk) or 2% isolated soy protein may be used, but must be shown in the ingredients statement on the product's label by its common name. Did you know that the original US hotdog was called a Michigan? Those in New York and the east coast ordered michigans rather than coneys, before Coney Island was even thought of. A Koegels Hot Dog is like no other. These hot dogs are made of the best ingredients and have natural casings. If you know anyone from Michigan just ask them what they think of Koegels Hot Dogs. I'm sure you will get an ear full. What makes Koegels Hot Dogs so good is the high quality ingredients and that snap when you bite into one. The Koegels Hot Dog "snap" is unique to only Koegels. Living in Flint for nearly 40 years I grew up with Koegels Hot Dogs and when someone gave me a ball park frank it was just gross. Once you try Koegels Hot Dog as just a plain dog or as a coney you will never want to go back to those big chain hot dog brands. My two year old even turns his nose up at any hot dog that is not a Koegels Hot Dog.
